En el ciclo diario del despertar dormido al apetito de vivir, sentirse vivo y emborracharse así, vivo hasta dormirse nuevamente, lo que hacía era acariciar su poca alma, sus almas, tantas, hasta llenarse de ojos y aquel recuerdo. Era en la playa, cincuenta años atrás. Llovía. Hizo una casita de ramas y Alma dijo: tengo novio.
Por cierto su alma, bella mujer morena, se volvió loca cuando fue madre o, en todo caso, él era un borracho nada más. Pero aprendiendo el idioma ruso en cursiva, recordaba ayer, y lo intimaba a proseguir la caligrafía de su maestra de cuarto, que lo amó, lo mimó, le mostró a Fidias y le enseñó a remontar cometas.
¿Dónde vivían sus almas? ¿Dónde estaba su Alma...? Nunca lo supo ni hubo forma de averiguar. Pero estuvo envejeciendo y anduvo por caminos en los que nunca pudo confirmar aquel amor.
Está sentado ahí. Todos saben que es comunista, lo respetan, se sabe, es pobre y rico, generoso al convidar, al envidar y hasta para echar el resto. Confirmo, porque todos sospechan, que tiene miles y miles de compañeros almas y más.
De mujeres no se le sabe nada. Comentan de una pelirroja y cierta veterana patricia que lo visitaba en Playa Honda; pero como no habla todo es rumor. Qué edad tiene se preguntan los que lo ven cerrar la puerta, salir, saludar, irse a no se sabe dónde, y en síntesis se asume que es viejo.

Se dice que lloraba y seguía hablando acerca de los locos y sus pensamientos. Pero lo cierto es que lo encontramos, despierto, mirando al cielo azul, muerto boca arriba, claramente amanecido, a las seis de la mañana de esa noche, en la Rambla de Playa Ramírez.
